Rep. Poliquin wants $1 coin to feature George H.W. and Barbara Bush

A Maine Congressman is proposing a bill that would authorize the minting of $1 coins featuring George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush who had deep ties to the state.

A Maine congressman is proposing a bill that would authorize the minting of $1 coins featuring George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush who had deep ties to the state.

The 41st President and the former First Lady both passed away in 2018.

Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin proposed the bill this week. Poliquin is a member of the House Financial Services Committee which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Mint.

“Both President George H. W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush hold a special place in the hearts of so many Mainers,” Poliquin said.

Under the Presidential $1 Coin Program all deceased presidents are featured on the $1 coin for a year. Each deceased first lady is featured on a commemorative gold coin.

Congressman Poliquin’s legislation would add President George H. W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush into the program in 2019.
