Smartphone addiction? Are you or your kids addicted?

It's easy to admit we're addicted to our smartphones. Or is it? It might be easier for adults to point the finger at kids. At least that's the findings of a recent survey.

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- When it comes to addiction to mobile devices, who takes the cake? Parents? Kids? Or is it a combination?

NEWS CENTER Maine is hearing from some Maine parents and teens for their take on the topic of phone addiction.

A recent survey by Common Sense Media and Survey Monkey found 32% of the more than 4,000 adults surveyed said they feel they are addicted to their mobile devices.

Almost half, however, said they feel like their child is addicted to their mobile device.

One mother says she does consider herself to be addicted to her cellphone.

"I check it a lot during the day, um it’s how I keep in touch with everybody."

We also asked if she thought her children were glued to their phones. Her answer? Yes. Her daughter also happened to be standing right next to her.

“I don’t think I am! Not as bad as you!" she said as she turned and looked at her mom.

Her mom's response, "so I’m worse than my kids apparently!"

NEWS CENTER Maine asked a number of teens if they thought they were addicted to their phones. Several answered yes, without hesitation.

A few did say no. Those same teens who answered no also said they don't think their parents are addicted to their phones either. Perhaps this is a case of leading by example.

According to the survey, 89% of parents believe it’s up to them to limit their child’s time spent on mobile devices.
