BAILEYVILLE (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Classes barely got started Friday in Baileyville before a threat shut them down.

The AOS 90 school district posted an advisory with NEWS CENTER Maine to say students would be sent home from schools in Baileyville at 9:30 a.m.

The advisory gave "a threat of the safety of the students" as the reason for the dismissal.

Superintendent Bill Braun said the threat was posted to Facebook by a past student. Although he deferred to police to provide details of the threat, Braun said it arose from a dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

School leaders contacted Baileyville Police once the threat was brought to their attention. Since police were not immediately able to locate the author of the Facebook message, Braun said they decided together to close Woodland Jr./Sr. High School and Woodland Elementary School.

In addition to the interruption caused by the threat, students in Baileyville also lost class time this week when the schools were closed for a snowstorm.
