A voice intoxicating and bright

Bri Lane is rising, tie yourself to the mast.

There are many voices that resonate in music and keep their sustain through times deliberate assault. Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, Aretha, hold the chairs on at the top of the parliament of vocal royalty. I'm sure there are more to be added to this list, but these three women stand at the doorway. They welcome in the fresh nascent voices, the pure melodies of the songstress singing from her toes. You can hear the life they've lead, Billie in her torment, Edith in her irreverence. New darlings appear on the stage, some to join the queens, some to fade into the dust.

Bri Lane is young. She hasn't lived the life that these women have trod to tell the tales of a life well lived. She's just beginning, but she has the voice. She has the soulful, sultry sin that pulls you in from the sidewalk as you were passing a bar on the lower east side on your way back with the Thai food. You can't explain why you're sitting there saying to yourself, just one more song, as the martini glasses add up in front of you and the Pad Thai tofu with 3 stars sits congealing. You can't explain as the calls to your phone add up in your voicemail, that you heard her singing about her "Wild Side" and you had to hear where this voice was coming from. There will be a lot of explaining later, but for now, you will just listen. Bri Lane is on the rise.

Don't take my word for it. Bri Lane is playing at Bayside Bowl in Portland on 3.23. And again on 3.31 at One Longfellow Square.

And you can keep tabs on her at https://www.brilanemusic.com/

And maybe, after you do all that explaining you can say, I remember when...

Just sayin...
