PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- There were a lot of warm feelings on Valentine's Day and oil companies from York to Aroostook County had a part in that.
Members of the Maine Energy Marketers Association (MEMA) teamed up to surprise oil customers during the holiday with 100 gallons of free oil. Giroux Energy in Portland selected five of its long-time customers to deliver to as part of the campaign called Fuel Your Love. Steve Giroux, general manager, was the one who got to knock on doors and deliver the good news.
"I really think that Mainers in the winter time are very, very appreciative of heat and warmth and it's first and foremost on their minds," said Giroux.
Joanne Friedrick has been a Giroux Energy customer for around 20 years. She thought something was up when she got the phone call asking if she would be home on Valentine's Day, but she never assumed the delivery would be as good as it was.
"Who doesn't want an extra 100 gallons of oil for free this time of year," said Friedrick. "Actually I was just going to call them to fill the tank so the timing was perfect."
