UMaine's Brian Naylor Discusses NPR Career

Brian Naylor is a veteran broadcaster on National Public Radio. His career began at the University of Maine where he studied Journalism.

Orono, ME (NEWS CENTER) -- Brian Naylor returned to his Alma Mater last week to help launch a speaking series entitled, "Framing Maine: Conversations with Storytellers and Imagemakers from the Pine Tree State."

Naylor transferred to UMaine because he was looking for a program which involved journalism and media. "Within two or three weeks" he was on the student radio station WMEB-FM.

"I remember the studios. I remember the microphones. it was a great experience," Mr. Naylor said.

While at college, he got a job at WLBZ-AM in Bangor and moved on to WLAM in Lewiston. He left commercial radio to join the National Public Radio affiliate in Columbus, Ohio.

He joined the network and was quickly assigned to cover the White House during the Reagan Administration.

He has worked as a correspondent, anchor and host of practically all NPR programming. He has covered events in thirty countries and almost every state.
